Governance Policies

Sport Ireland requires all National Governing Bodies (NGBs) to formally document and maintain comprehensive policies as a core condition of good governance, accountability, and athlete welfare. This requirement ensures that every organisation operates with clear, transparent procedures across key areas such as safeguarding, equality, disciplinary processes, and financial management. By having policies clearly written, approved, and regularly reviewed, NGBs create consistency in decision-making, reduce risk, and demonstrate compliance with national standards and funding requirements. It also helps build trust among athletes, members, and stakeholders, as expectations and responsibilities are clearly defined and publicly accessible.
