Benefits of Membership

Club Requirements

Please read the Affiliate Club Requirements.

  1. The registered Club Instructor must have a Dan grade in traditional karate
  2. This Dan grade must be awarded by a bona fide organisation *
  3. The traditional style of karate must be recognised by O.N.A.K.A.I. *
  4. Verifiable documentation is required
  5. Clubs must register with the National Vetting Bureau
  6. Instructors & Assistant Instructors must be Garda vetted
  7. Completion of Safeguarding 1 workshop
  8. Completion of Sport 1st Aid Course
  9. Clubs must have appropriate insurance
  10. Appointment of a Club Children's Officer (if under 18s)
  11. Completion of Safeguarding 2 workshop
  12. Minimum of 10 members
  13. Safeguarding Risk Assessment required
  14. Safeguarding Statement required
  15. Agreement to attain coaching qualifications
  16. Compliance with governance codes
  17. Agreement to abide by constitution
  18. Instructors may be assessed for proficiency
  19. Assessment by Technical Committee may be required
  20. Submission of teaching syllabus may be required

In order to comply with regulation and to provide protection to all our members, all clubs must meet our defined criteria. This ensures the highest standards in Irish karate.

All applications are reviewed by the Executive Committee of O.N.A.K.A.I.

*Decisions regarding Dan grades and recognised styles are made by the Executive Committee.
